Mayor Of The Town  $2.99

Who would have guessed that listening to the ever-pleasant show Mayor of The Town, with Lionel Barrymore, would be leading one someday to revere its memory.  The Mayor, of course, was Lionel Barrymore and the words irascible and cantankerous were invented for him.  Yet, for all of it, his wisdom, which he shared with us  every week, and his great heart and human understanding showed through everything.

Agnes Moorehead played the Mayor's maid, Marilly, and her caring for him, for all of her grumbling and complaining, was golden. The household was completed when his nephew Butch came to live with him.  Their relationship was special.  When the Mayor was not in his office, where Marilly felt he should be, she knew he and Butch had gone fishing.

The Mayor, Butch and Marilly lived between First and Spring Streets in a beautiful and warmly caring little town.  For pure nostalgic pleasure you cannot beat The Mayor of The Town with Lionel Barrymore, Agnes Moorehead and young Roscoe Turner.  Very recommended.
