Fibber
McGee and Molly
Fibber McGee and Molly are timeless and will remain in our hearts and
lurk happily behind our smiles forever. They entertained us for decades.
Fibber and Molly were a typical married couple living in a small town of 60
years ago. Fibber was a fibber and the world's most accomplished exaggerator.
His loveable ness came, perhaps, from his ability to make a fool of himself
with such unrelenting vigor and certainty. The McGees were surrounded by
loveable neighbors who dropped in for visits nearly every week. Many of
them, such as Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, Fibber's feuding friend, went on
to be successes on their own. For example, the Great Gildersleeve is
available to us all, just as Fibber and Molly are. These shows were written by
Don Quinn, famous for his "The Halls of Ivy." Musical
Direction was by Billy Mills who was well known across America, and also
well known for his Bread and Butter Pickles, "Good alone or with
somebody," which won first prize at the Los Angeles County Fair
year after Year. This reviewer makes and gives them as Christmas gifts
each year. Under Mr. Mills direction, The Kings Men provided songs each week
for over 13 years. With Harlow Wilcox serving as announcer and working
floating commercials for Johnson's Wax into the center of each program,
everything necessary for success was present, and the Fibber McGee and Molly
show was overwhelmingly successful. It was known as the most
listened to show on the air. You will enjoy it and listen to it
with all the rapture and pleasure and laughter we did so many years ago.
The recommendation is that you get as many of the programs as swiftly as you
can.
